How to Install 7net Recorder on Ubuntu with a .deb Package

This guide explains how to install 7net Recorder on Ubuntu using the .deb package. You do not need to use Terminal for the installation steps shown here. Ubuntu App Center will open the package, ask for confirmation, request your administrator password, and install the application.

Before you continue: download the .deb package only from an official 7net source, such as the 7net Recorder download page, the official GitHub release, or the 7net NAS mirror. Ubuntu may warn that a manually downloaded .deb file is a third-party package because it did not come directly from the App Center catalog.

Before you begin

Make sure that:

  • You are using a supported Ubuntu desktop version.
  • The 7net Recorder .deb file has finished downloading.
  • You know the password for your Ubuntu user account.
  • You close any important work before installing system software.

Step 1: Open the 7net Recorder .deb package

Open your Downloads folder and double-click the 7net Recorder .deb file. Ubuntu should open the package in App Center.

You will see the application name, package size, website link and description. You may also see a “Potentially unsafe” notice. In this context, Ubuntu is warning you that the package was provided by a third party and was not installed directly from the App Center catalog.

If you downloaded the package from an official 7net source, click Install.

Step 2: Confirm that you want to install the package

Ubuntu may display another confirmation dialog explaining that the package is provided by a third party. Read the message and make sure that the file came from the official 7net download source.

Click Install to continue.

Step 3: Enter your Ubuntu password

Installing software changes the system, so Ubuntu requires administrator authentication. The Authentication Required dialog will appear.

  1. Enter the password for your Ubuntu user account.
  2. Click Authenticate.

The password characters are hidden while you type. This is normal.

Step 4: Wait while 7net Recorder is installed

App Center will begin installing the package. The button changes to an Installing status while Ubuntu copies the application and installs the required dependencies.

Keep App Center open and do not shut down the computer until the installation finishes. The installed size can be larger than the original .deb download because Ubuntu may also install components required by the recorder.

Step 5: Check that the installation completed

When installation is complete, App Center will show the package as Installed. At this point, 7net Recorder has been added to your Ubuntu applications.

Step 6: Open 7net Recorder

Open the Ubuntu application overview. You can press the Super key on your keyboard and search for 7net Recorder.

When the 7net Recorder icon appears, click it to start the application.

Installation complete. You can now open 7net Recorder, choose your screen and audio sources, select your recording settings, and start recording.

If the Install button does not work

If App Center cannot install the package, try these checks:

  • Make sure the .deb file finished downloading completely.
  • Download the package again from the official 7net source.
  • Confirm that your Ubuntu version is supported.
  • Restart App Center and open the .deb package again.
  • Use the Terminal installation method on the 7net Recorder Linux download page if needed.
